No you don't. You can use Topcased as you want without importing
anything.

The installation instructions do not differentiate between RCP
and the custom Eclipse load as far as updating.
RCP version is an Eclipse platform with Topcased and all needed
dependencies to run it.
If it is good as is, I can just move on. But if I need to
download anything, I am still stuck at not being able to determine what
or where to get it.
Additionally, does the RCP result in any limitations? Can I add
things just as if I was using a custom Eclipse?
Yes, you can add everything you want using the Eclipse software updater
as usual.

This version is a all in one packaged Topcased with all needed
dependencies. You just have to unzip it.<br>
The steps you talk about in your mail help you to install Topcased too,
but it is mainly used when you want to install it in a custom Eclipse
platform with specific embedded components.<br>
