Hi Bernard, What you are trying to represent with the Context Diagram? Are you showing the structural connections your system has with the systems and other things around it, or is it simply a summary of the interactions with these external things?
I suggest you use the Use Case to show a more abstract and interaction-focused view. In general a Use Case is an abstraction of a set of interactions with one or more external entities (user, other systems, etc) focused on a single User Goal. On a context diagram, a use case could show all interactions with all external entities, with the goal being the overall purpose of the system. For the system I typically build, I would find this less suitable. The object communication diagram would be better to show more detail in the relationships between the system Object and the external entities. In this case you are more focusing on the connections to/from the system, than simply on the interactions. Be sure to let us know what you choose and why. - Peter _________________________________________________ Pathfinder Solutions www.pathfindersolns.com Making Systems Development Successful. Peter J. This diagram should give a system overview in a single schema. In the figure "the Taxinomy of structure and behavior diagram", there is no context diagram. One solution is to draw a use case with name the systme name and actors around this use case, and links between the use case and the actors. Links names are actors actions or use cases. Another solution is to use a communication diagram, with an object, its name being the system name and actors around this object. Messages between actors and system give an overview of system features. But is there an "official" solution ?
