This is simply because your uml file does not contains any diagram information. The model is not the diagrams. Diagrams are projections of the model using a graphical syntaxe AND based on what the user wants to illustrate (either, you have some tools that build diagrams for you but, generaly, the tool does not know what is relevant and creates ugly diagrams)
So you have to draw the diagram you are interested in, using drag n drop.
