First step is to decide what should be in the icons.
How about the following:
shelve: This is a little difficult, I think. A document (white paper) with
two Z, or a storage rack with three shelves.
rename/guess: an equal sign and a question mark indicating the guess
process. I think this icon should stress guess more than rename (as a plain
rename works differently)
hgignore: a pair of dark sunglasses, perhaps with a repository (yellow
cylinder) or file (white paper) in the background
