They do seem to be arriving regularly, but I have not attempted to use
one of them yet.

You would have both.  The summary would still be in the diff header.

It will make it more difficult to cherry pick hunks out of large
changes, but it would also add clarity.  It's a tough choice.  I
definitely recommend you test drive the new behavior and then give it
some thought.
