VM-ware ESX running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise with no other software 
installed.

Not quite sure what implications this had, although I noticed that I 
didn't have TortoiseHg in path even when opening new shell windows (it 
used to be the case pre-1.0). After a reboot the path was ok.
