NSF-Funded HFOSS Workshop, June 18-20, 2018, Philadelphia, PA POSSE alums, encourage your colleagues to attend!
Join over 125 faculty members from over 100 institutions who have participated in the Professors' Open Source Software Experience (POSSE) workshop. This NSF-funded workshop helps full-time faculty at U.S. institutions support student learning from humanitarian free and open source software (HFOSS). HFOSS is open source software that has a humanitarian purpose such as disaster management, health care, or economic development.Additional Information: http://foss2serve.org Workshop Format Unlike many workshops in which the content is concentrated in the face-to-face meeting, this workshop has three stages: Stage 1 - Starts April 23rd, 2017 with online activities. These activities will take 2-3 hours/week and include interaction among workshop instructors and participants. Stage 2 - The face-to-face workshop held at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, June 18-20, 2018. Participants will include the workshop organizers, POSSE alumni, and open source community members. Stage 3 - Starts immediately after stage 2 and consists of online activities and interactions among small groups so that participants will have support while involving students in an HFOSS project in the classroom. How to Apply: To apply, please complete and submit the application available at: http://foss2serve.org/index.php/POSSE_2018-06. Prior work with FOSS projects is not required and multiple faculty members at the same institution are encouraged to apply. Submit your application by April 2nd. We will notify you of the status of your application by September 16th 2018. Participant Support: POSSE is supported by the National Science Foundation and Red Hat, Inc. Due to the funding source, we can only support full-time faculty at U.S. institutions. However, if you can support your own travel, please do submit an application. NSF funding will provide 2 nights lodging and meals during the workshop for full-time faculty based in the United States. Travel costs will also be covered up to $500.
