Wonderful, wonderful Madness
Fourteen years may seem like a long time between recordings. In the
case of Madness, it's clearly been worth the wait with the release
of Wonderful, eleven tracks of ordinary magic recorded with
all seven original members. Crash-landing with infectious top ten single
"Lovestruck", Madness move from the traditional nutty boy territory of
tracks "The Wizard" and "Going To The Top" through to the grown-up pop of
"Elysium" and "Saturday Night, Sunday Morning". Cracking anthem "Drip Fed
Fred" sees the lads collaborating with Ian Dury, whilst "The Communicator"
sees a welcome return to old skool ska. With long-standing partners in
crime, Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley on production duties, Wonderful
sounds exactly as it should.
The full track listing is; Lovestruck, Johnny The Horse, The Communicator,
4am, The Wizards, Drip Fed Fred (featuring Ian Dury), Going To The Top,
Elysium, Saturday Night Sunday Morning, If I Didnt Care, No Money.
Stepping back in Madness history, it's 20 years since the release of debut
single, "The Prince". Marking this momentous Madness landmark is "The
Lot", a 6 CD box set containing all 6 studio albums released by the band.
Digitally remastered, each disc also contains 4 enhanced videos with
weblinks back to the band's own website, madness.co.uk. Including classic
Madness visuals for videos "House Of Fun" and "Baggy Trousers" and the
legendary gold Doc Martens boots on the cover, The Lot has got it covered.
