Hiya Al and all you Maddies,

Just popped in to the site to see the vid. Looks good. Looks like it might
not be quite so "nutty" but I'm all for a bit of serious-ness from time to
time. I'll be sitting glued to VH-1 from Monday waiting to tape it (thanks
for the tip, Graham). Just as well I don't have a life to be getting on
with;-)

After reading the tracklisting, is anyone else rather disturbed at the
omission of "You're Wonderful" from the final track-listing??? I know I am.
I love the song and (unlike a few listees) I thought it still sounded magic
at the end of The Maddley. So why has it suddenly been chopped??? And why
is there a "remix" of it on Johnny The Horse when there isn't going to be
an original version available to remix???!!! This makes no sense to me. And
if it was on the album that would make it *twelve* tracks, which is a far
better number of tracks for an album than *eleven*! (IMHO) What with all
the delays in the release and no "You're Wonderful", I'm depressed now.

While I'm here, I saw a couple of reviews in the magazines for the album
yesterday. Some are mentioned on the official site, but FHM, Uncut and Q
have all given the album 3 out of 5, with the gist of the message being
that while it doesn't quite reach the magical Madness classics there are
still plenty of good songs to enjoy. FHM singled out "Drip Fed Fred", as
did one of the other two. And I think Q also mentioned "Saturday Night,
Sunday Morning" as another of the strongest tracks while "Going To The Top"
doesn't seem to have quite hit the mark. Q also (quite bizarrely) described
it as countless re-hashes of "Embarrassment"! Another example of a lazy
journalist there. You hear a tune with piano, guitar, sax, quality rhythm
and hey, it must be a re-hash of "Embarrassment"!! But they did point out
that it is, in the end, a good album while it could easily have been
tragic. Because of how people fondly remember Madness and probably feel
they will never match their old stuff, I think this probably equates to
three excellent reviews. And we should also remember that when the "old,
classic" Madness albums came out in the 80s, they usually didn't get
brilliant reviews. "Keep Moving" only managed to get 6s and 7s out of 10
because Madness were always judged on having storming singles and so every
album should be like a singles compilation! Which is just ridiculous.
Anyway, not a bad start on the reviews front.

Cheers for now,
Peter
