Hello everyone in Virtual Maddieland,

Malta Paul put this to the list several weeks ago now. I meant to reply
then but forgot, and since we don't seem any closer to the release dates of
the single and album than we were back then(:-( ), I thought I'd pop back
and do my belated reply.

>The Best Bits In Mad Songs:
>
>Best Vox: Cathal on "Michael Caine". Simply spine-tingling for me. His
gravelly low voice compels you to listen to every syllable and feel the
pain and confusion felt by the character in the song.

>Best Sax: "One Better Day" intro and instrumental break. Unfortunately I
remember this wonderful sax-playing caused a friend of mine to say this
song sounded like Sade!!!! That "Smooth Operator" was out around the same
time. Yeeeuuuuuukkkkkk!!!

>Best Drums: Has to be the intro to "Grey Day" for me. I've never been able
to get this right, no matter how many times I try.

>Best Piano: The piano on the US Dance Mix of "Our House". Absolutely
amazing. I can almost picture Mike's piano bouncing across the floor as he
thumps this out. And "Disappear" is not far behind.

>Best Guitar: "Gabriel's Horn" Can I use this??? Too late, I have;-)
Wonderful crashing and funky guitars all the way through this. A
magnificent *noise*!

>Best Bass: The bass lines were always one of the main factors I used to
tell people that they were in a class of their own. Bedders didn't just
play simple bass lines, it seemed like he was playing another melody line!
And my fave has to be "Our House", especially the verses, and that cool
sliding bit when he bursts in on the intro.

>Best Chorus: Have to go with "The Sun And The Rain" on this one. Amazing
melody, and two different sets of lyrics for the chorus really make this
stand out. And the "Doo de doo"s were ingenius too. Although for different
reasons, "Michael Caine" deserves a mention because they made such an
amazzing chorus out of a single line! So may subtle changes each time it
was sung helped make this my favourite song ever. It's almost hypnotic.

That's my bit.

Cheers for now,
Peter
