Greetings One And All,

I`ve just finished watching Later with Jools Holland and I just had to make
a couple of comments about the show. Before I do though, I`ve a question to
ask the American members although it`s bound to result in mails containing
either howls of derision or scorn piling up in my mailbox! The show also
featured a couple of songs by Pavement and I`d like to know if American
guitar bands are all cloned from one person as to me they all sound alike
with the same couple of chords! Anyway, I digress

First up from Madness was Lovestruck. It may be down to the amount of times
I`ve heard it but this no longer sounds like a new song, it sounds as though
it`s been around for years and is just as familiar as the likes of My Girl,
Grey Day, House Of Fun and others. Within the first few bars of the song it
became apparent that once more they`d decided not to bother trying to
*serious musicians* and instead wanted to enjoy themselves...........believe
me it looked as though they were having a great time!

Suggs and (for once) Mike then did a short interview claiming that it`s
taken 14 years to write the new album as everyone was writing and only
produced 1 song every 7 years!!! ;0)

After songs by a couple of the other acts up came the part I was waiting
for, Drip Fed Fred with "Uncle" Ian Dury! What can I say, it was
amazing!!!!! While Ian sang Carl jumped around in the background or indulged
in a spot of shadow boxing! When it was time for Reverend Greene to say his
piece Lee stepped up resplendent in an eyepatch and bishop`s mitre and
proceeded to to *sing* his part whilst doing an impersonation of Ian
Paisley!!! Trust me, you had to see it!!! ;0)

Came the last 10 mins of the show and the band launched into a great
rendition of Our House followed by JTH. Those on list who have said JTH
lacks the bounce of previous singles should now eat their words, as well as
the audience this track had members of the other acts jumping up and down,
waving and generally bouncing around! Suggs did his trademark add-libbing
(Although I suspect he momentarily forgot the words) during the line "He
took his battered bones to Regents Park at sunset", Carl finished off the
song by claiming "Brown bread, stone dead!

I have to say that I can`t remember the last time I`ve seen them have so
much fun in a tv broadcast. I`m sure someone will have these songs up on a
web site within the next day or two, my advice is definitely get a copy of
DFF as it`s fabulous and belongs in everyone`s personal Madness archive.
We`ve had Complete, Utter, Divine and now Wonderful Madness, this
performance was Pure Madness!

If you`ve lasted this long, don`t worry there`s no more as I`ll finish off
what is by far my longest posting to date!

Mike H
Hey.......Was that you??????
