Hi all,
I finally received my copy of Wonderful yesterday (a late birthday present
from my brother). I put it in my CD player instantly, and after a few songs
I decided to press the "repeat" button. It's not often that I do that. It's
a great album : great songs, great lyrics, and generally... well... great!
I'm not going to do a full review of it (I'll leave that stuff to Vince!),
but I'll go over the the songs that I like:

Lovestruck/Johnny The Horse:
A great comeback by Madness with Lovestruck and JTH, pity about the low
chart position of JTH. Anyway, as long
        as people like them!

The Communicator:
As soon as this one came on, I felt the urge to dance to it! But I would
look a bit daft doing that. A great
tune, reminds me of an old one. A great song, but why the barking dog?

4 AM:
I liked this the first time around, and I like it even better the second
time. Of course, being co-written by
        Barson, it must be good.

The Wizard:
Catchy tune, my second-favourite on the album. Must be a single. Favourite
bit is the "wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wizard,
s-s-s-s-sinner" bit. More animals - "here kitty kitty kitty!".

Drip Fed Fred:
My favourite. Must be a single. Another one I'll be dancing to at
Manchester in December. Good to hear Ian
Dury on this one. But who is the voice of Reverend Greene? And who is Fred?

Going To The Top:
Great lyrics ("great" seems to be my favourite word today!), I instantly
liked this one when I heard it on
Maddley, and it's even better as the real thing. Great (again) ending.

Elysium:
A "grown up" song by the sound of it, catchy beat. My third fave.

Saturday Night Sunday Morning:
I only realised what the song was about the third time I listened to it (I
was tired, OK?). A real portrait
of the "new" Madness. My 4th favourite.

I I Didn't Care:
It took a while for me to get used to this one (I'm like that with most
new songs anyway), but now I know it
well. Another "grown up" track. Who is Jack Lawrence though?

No Money:
Good one by the Woodgates. Does this one have some meaning - they've got
no money to keep Madness going much
longer? Or am I reading between the lines too much? Hopefully so, because
with a new album like Wonderful,
I can't wait for the next one!

So there you go - it seems that the "songs I like" are all of them. Good to
have Madness back - this album sounds
more "professional" than some of the early ones, especially with the extra
trombones and strings, etc (like "The
Wizard" and "Elysium"). One question - will there be a video released? Or
do we have to buy the "enhanced video" CD's
to see their acting?

So "wonderful : an understatement?" = yes!

Thanks all - and Thanks Madness,
Iain
