Ok here goes my top five from the new album.
Best song in my opinion has to be The Wizard. I know this goes
against what most people think, but tough, it's my choice. It's just
absolutely fantastic, the lyrics, and I don't know what Chris is doing
with the guitar, but it is sooooooo good. Horn section has been
bolstered to create an exquisite all round sound. Here kitty kitty
kitty....
Second best I think is Drip Fed Fred. A lot of people's favourite, but
doesn't quite beat The Wizard. However still has the sinister
element I think we all love. Ian dury is superb, and I can't imagine it
being as good with Suggs or Carl singing. Perhaps though with Lee
on Vocals?
Third fave is Saturday night sunday morning. I think this song is a
great track with excellent vocals and guitar from Chrissy, plus
Mike's piano in the background adds that certain je ne sais quoi! (i
hjope I have that right!) Love the chorus on this one.
Fourth finds Elysium. I very grown up track (echoing someone
else's words). I haven't a clue what this song is about, but it is an
anthem in Madness' terms
Fifth. This si a hard one to pick, as the rest of the songs are good,
and I don't want to leave any out. If You're Wonderful were on the
album, then it would have come in second, and the rest would have
shifted down. However, it is not, so I'm going to have to go with
Johnny The Horse. A great footstomper, and I think a good choice
for single, and certainly would have done much better with the
proper promotion etc. but we won't go into that. also a great video
to boot.
So to recap,
1 The Wizard
2 Drip Fed Fred
3 Saturday night sunday morning
4 Elysium
5 Johnny The Horse
However, looking back at the track listing, I can't believe that I've
left out I am The Communicator, 4am, Going to The Top, and
Lovestruck, but being spoilt for choice, these decisions have to be
made. I think it will have to be like any other Madness album,
where the favourite songs will alter from day to day. I think that's
enough for now.
