I've been a Madness fan since 1979, so obviously, I'm reluctant to
admit "defeat" on their comeback.

I take great pride in the bands achivements over the years. Belive me,
if you wasn't there in the early 80's, this band truly dominated the
UK music scene. Every year they seemed to be best selling singles
artists, and even by the time of the so called "decline", were still
knocking out great, memorable tracks, that have become classics of the
era.

The point I've struggled to make is that what ever the disappointments
or successes of this "comeback", Madness will always be a strongly
loved part of the UK's musical heritage.

Sure, I was pissed off that JTH and the album didn't chart better, but
not because I wanted the Guiness Book Of Hit Singles/Albums etc. to
record a better "strike rate", but because they were such good
releases that deserved a wider audience.

If bands like The Selecter, who originally only issued 2 albums in
their heyday, can keep on knocking them out, then why not Madness ?

OK, the boys may feel they have a reputation to uphold, but it's no
disgrace if they were to sign to a smaller label (who may know how to
market them better), and aim their releases at a more selective
sector.

The people on this list range from early teens, who only discovered
the band since Divine Madness and beyond, to those who have been fans
since the eraly days. We all stand together, just 'cos I've been a
follower since '79, gives me no more right to call my self a "true
fan" than those who discovered them later on. I respect all your
views.

We all love the band, and hope to see them carry on. They really are
unique, despite the pigeon holes the media try to impose on them.

Sorry for rambling on, just needed to express my thoughts.

All the best
