Hiya Simon and all you Maddies,

>I also think the fans have been taken for a ride.
>two singles, which you know we must buy- only difference being is a not-so
nutty track from Cathal and the DFF demo.
>For crying out loud- why not put all five tracks on one fucking CD, and
still room for quicktime movie or two.
>This is definitely an exploit aimed at Maddies to buy two CDs.

This isn't Madness ripping off the public. It's to comply with regulations
regarding what qualifies for the chart. Singles nowadays are only allowed
to have a maximum of 3 audio tracks. This rule was brought in to protect
the untalented bands who like to rip off their fans by not recording new
tracks for B-sides and felt embarrassed by all the bands who made an effort
to make their fans *want* to buy a single by cramming it full of new songs
(Mansun are the ultimate example with at least four new songs with every
single release).

And when you've (allegedly) released a double A-side, that's two of the
three tracks committed for each CD so there's only room for one more track
on each. I think DFF lends itself well to a good club remix like the Wubble
U versions of The Prince, so they could have got another mix on one of the
CDs. Also the price puts you off a little. Many recent new releases have
been back down to 1.99 but in Virgin the Madness singles were 3.49 each!
HMV were selling them at 2.99 though. As for all the shops who didn't
bother to stock them at all, well, a polite letter informing them that
you'll take your custom elsewhere wouldn't go amiss.

Oh, and for the record, I think Light Of The Way is brilliant! And I've
still got a sneaky feeling You're Wonderful could be re-recorded and
submitted for the England Euro 200 anthem! There has to be some good come
out of England beating Scotland!;-) And I agree with Rob W in saying that
the TFI performance of DFF was absolutely brilliant. The best I've seen by
far. It was a lot tighter than on Jools Holland and Phil Jupitus did his
bit really well and the brass was brilliant (IMHO).

Cheers for now,
Peter
