Hi

I always thought that 3 track CD single rule was a bit of a rip off.
Apparently it was introduced to protect artists from being
"overworked" to produce extra tracks or something similar.

But considering nearly all singles are issued on CD and CD2 now, that
leaves bands searching for 6 tracks instead of 4 (if they only
bothered with 1 4 track single).

I always thought CD2 was a bit off fan exploirtation, and that it
would have made more sense to keep unlimited number of CD
singletracks, but ban CD2. Anyway enough of all that.

I agree, the brass section really did add something extra to DFF on
TFI.

Also I too believe that we should look back on the "wonderful" era as
an added bonus. I personally don't think this is the last we'll hear
from Madness, but if they do take another lengthy break good luck to
them.

Their fans have stuck by them, and they have stuck by their fans.

I'm really pleased to hear about the possibility of another
Crunch/Nutty Boys album. The band have some great material that I've
heard from live shows, and would love to hear some of those laid down.

I also love the demo of DFF from the CD. Typically Lee Thompson. I
love his sense of imagination, very very original.

I was talking with someone about how the difference in workrate of
bands these days. It made me realise just how hard Madness used to
work back in the '80s.

Today a band will record 1 album in 18-24 months, release more than
half of it on singles, do 4 dates and call that a tour!

If Madness were following the same work rate of old, they'd probably
be back in the studio working on the follow up album already- or at
least a stand alone single.

No rest for the mighty.

Oh yeah, if anyone still hasn't seen last October's Later with Jools,
I posted 6 screen grabs on my site. Better late than never!
