Hiya Alex, Jenny and all in Maddieland,

>I'm sure we all feel the same as you, Alex - that Virgin has short-changed
>the band as far as publicity goes. But this is a tricky situation and I'd
>think negativity would get us absolutely nowhere. In fact, it may give
>Virgin reason to not deal with Madness at all anymore.

I have to agree completely with Jenny on this. From Mr. Bedford's message
on Rob H's MISOnline a few weeks back, the band are obviously aware of how
we feel about Virgin's promotional efforts. And he made a point of
defending them. So what has anyone to gain from getting nasty and
complaining to the company (which, incidentally, Mr. Branson has nothing to
do with now)? If the band are being short changed, they are smart enough to
see it themselves and will say and do what is necessary as a result. As
Margaret said, the biggest problem was the conscious effort to NOT play
them by radio stations. And as unfair as it is, we can't do too much about
that either. Let's just feel sorry for the masses who don't know each of us
personally and so, haven't had a chance to hear one of the best albums of
the last decade. In times of disappointment, it's always good to start
acting all smug and superior;-)

So let's all calm down. We are all disappointed but we've done about as
much as we can to help them out. We don't want to give companies an excuse
to think of us all as a bunch of Maddies (quite literally!).

Cheers,
Peter
