Sorry Lawrence but Nick Hornby is obviously more of
a Madness fan than you thought, as the reference to 'One Step Beyond' is indeed
in the novel (page 186 in my copy) ...
"I've already worked out what I'm having at
mine. 'One Step Beyond', by Madness."
All in all I thought the film was very faithful to
the original book and both are excellent, definitely read and see if you get the
chance.
