As I said in my e-mail i think that Madness wrote
some cracking lyrics. Anyway, I hate pointless polls
as much as the next person, but why don't people mail
me off-list with their favourite line from a Madness
song. It's not a poll as few will have the same lyric
in common. I'll just send one e-mail with the person's
name and favourite lyric at the end of the week.

In the meantime, here are some of my favourites:

 - The feeling of arriving when you've nothing left to
lose. That classic line from "One Better Day" gets me
in places where I didn't even know I had places!!
 - "He said goodbye to his wife and child". What other
band in the world would put such a lyric in a song and
come to think of it, what other band has dedicated two
songs to the homeless???
 - "If you don't fit in, you'll fit in here". The
classic line which almost sums up madmeets! Tee -
hee!!
When Suggs puts his mind to it, he can write a good
lyric. This one of course is from the "Three Pyramids
Club" title track. I just wish he'd put his mind to it
more often.
 - "Plucking up the courage to speak". Taken from the
demo of "Listen To Your Father", this is a line which
sums up the awkward father-son relationship where you
find it difficult to say what's on your mind.
 - "When your race is run and you already know".
Almost an ambiguous line from "Yesterday's Men" for a
band who knew their time was soon to be up.
 - "Just shut your mouth for 5 minutes and lay back on
your bed". Taken from the Crunch! unreleased gem
"Going Solo". Only Lee Thompson, Eminem or The Prodigy
could get away with this lyric. Smack my Kix up!!

Blah-blah,
The Carden
