Hello gang!

Well, for those of you that could not make the first Darlo BadMeet you
missed a treat. Here followeth the details - starting from the Thursday
morning when Rob W and I travelled up to the gig itself.

Rob arrived at 09:30am. I hadn't even got up by the time he arrived. After
about an hour we were off on the 250 mile journey to the grim north.
Thankfully, the motorways were kind to us, and we arrived at Mike H's at
14:30. The rest of the afternoon sped quickly by, and before we knew it, we
were in Mike's local 'The Caledonian' waiting for his friend Ian to arrive.
Bored by waiting, we had to sink a couple of swifties.

Ian arrived at about 19:30. Shortly afterwards we left for Yates' Wine Bar
in the centre of town - stopping only briefly for a quick nose-bag in Burger
King. We got to Yates' reasonably early as the bar wasn't too packed. We
headed for the 'stage' end of the bar and ordered a drink.

There was a DJ on, playing punk / ska tracks from the late 70s early 80s.
The room rocked to the sounds of Madness, Beat, Specials, Dexy's amongst
others - although the DJ didn't have any Ian Dury amongst his 200 CDs! You
just can't get the staff!

Mike wandered over to the DJ's assistant, and asked him to inform the lead
singer of the band that Mike and his gang had arrived. Within a couple of
minutes the lackey re-appeared with the first of many freebies! Plastic
pork-pie hats and shades all-round! Shortly afterwards the lead singer
himself appeared and chatted to us for a good 15 minutes. He had some bad
news to impart - Mike couldn't get on stage to help out with lyrics of Drip
Fed Fred as the band hadn't finished learnng it! Would Mr. Hearne ever get
on stage again? The lead singer then disappeared to ready himself for the
evening's performance....
