For those of you who missed it, Suggs was in top form on the Jools Holland Show on
Monday night. After Jools played Madness's cover of My Old Man, Mr McPherson was
wheeled on for the last half hour and rattled out some good anecdotes.

Among them was how he missed Ian Dury recording his part on Drip Fed Fred. Suggs said:
''Ian said he'd be in the studio at 11am - and being Ian, and being professional, of
course he was. I ambled in about midday and missed him. Great shame.''

He also told how, after a few drinks, he likes to play records very loud and have a
dance in the corner of his basement. He said that often he likes a record so much that
he plays it over and over again. One morning his neighbour pushed a note under his
door which read: ''It's not the noise or type of records we mind - it's the
repetition!''

One night the same neighbour was having a party in the wee small hours, and Ann
(Suggs's wife) sent him round to complain. Suggs knocked on the door to ask them to
stop, and the neighbour opened it, crying: ''Great! Come in - we've just got
married!'' Not wishing to be rude, Suggs joined the party and added: ''I stumbled out
at around 4am, only to find Ann had bolted the front door and locked me out!''

In between Suggs chose a Skatalites number, an obscure old ska song by someone called
Maraguerita and Itinerant Child off Mr Lovepants. He also talked about the ska
programme he did for Radio 4 and how his daughters never put the CDs back in the right
boxes after borrowing them! Top stuff.
