>Those of you on here who know me well also know I suffer badly from >insomnia. Tonight whilst flicking through the tv channels I clicked on my >local ITV station and what did I find......at 2.25 am the video for Driving >In My Car on some programme called cars and girls! Mike me old mucker! You wouldnt have stumbled on Granada Men and Motors would you! Dear me...and a man of your age ;-) On a more serious note however....it seems to me that there are actually more and more programmes on different channels using snippets of Madness these days. Adverts too are also seeing an ever increasing usage of Ska tracks. But while I agree this does give exposure to an unaware and new audience, is the thinking behind it more sinister? For example. Every time a programme uses a Madness track they are generally tacky, light-hearted or kids programmes. I am getting to wonder if TV producers are using Madness because they see them as historic and a fun novelty from the past that would only appeal to the under 8 age group. If this is the case we should not be proud to gloat every time you hear Madness in the background of some middle-of-the-road programme produced by some toss pot producer who thinks no different about Madness than what their Grandmother is having for her dinner. Only WE know what Madness really stand for, and yet no matter how excited every time I get when I unexpectedly hear Madness on the telly, it really is sad to think that people all around the country are turning to their partners and saying "Oh whats that music again? Madness wasnt it? I liked them....wonder what ever happened to them. They should have kept on going". Says it all really. Hope this stirs up some decent conversation on the list.
