Not that it needs any additional publicity as the massive success of last years Blackpool weekend as depicted in Iain Masons glossy review paper, speaks volumes in itself, but for anyone who is perhaps new to the List, this years weekend in November is going to be awesome so do get booking your tickets now. As always massive respect to Cheryl and Mountain Boy for their ceaseless work including amassing so much memorabilia for the auction.
Regarding recent emails, I fully concur with Mountain Boys view that if the only way we are going to see the release of a new Madness single is if Virgin can simultaneously be promoting another greatest hits album, then that is the compromise we will have to live we. If as Birchy suggests, this could be in the form of a soundtrack to the musical, that would be far more acceptable, at least it would show a bit of imagination. Judging by Virgins track record though Im not hugely optimistic. In response to Adele, I do not regard this as old news as the problem is still very real. I am still completely unconvinced that Madness can do nothing to influence the decision makers at Virgin, nor have I yet seen any evidence by way of interviews, articles or statements from the band that they are opposed to Virgins relentless re-release strategy. I certainly dont think the reason so many of us are opposed to this policy has anything to do with us having to buy them. Whether we buy them or not is a personal choice, what we are more concerned with is the reputation of the band. I was interested to note Mr Gs reference to Status Quo, as only recently I was reading an article from 1992 where Mr Smash was laughing about Status Quo having released 27 greatest hits albums. If you include the numerous Its Madnessetc reissues, then Madness themselves arent now far short of this figure. For a band once known as one of the greatest ever singles bands, I would hate Madness to be merely remembered for their plethora of compilation stocking fillers. This said Im quite sure theyre not ready to retire just yet and I do hope theyll continue to bring many more years of enjoyment to the thousands who aspire to that Nutty Sound.
