Hello, This may upset a few of you but I'm afraid that this has to be said.
I feel quite ashamed to think that some ageing punk like John Otway can gain so much support and interest from his internet fan base that he has managed to stumble into the Top 10 in the UK with a ripped off cover version, Bunsen Burner. (taken from Disco Inferno). This man (as Im sure many of you ageing hippies out there know) wanted a hit song so bad for his 50th birthday, he got together with his fans to form a plan. They would all go out and buy a pre-release copy of the single, urgeing ten of their friends each to do it also. This would mean a potential 30,000 sales in advance would propel the song into the Top 10, get it valuable air-play and drum up media interest. I've seen him all over the place - everyone is talking about him. From my own company magazine, to other internet mailng lists to special's on the Channel 4 news! He has even been pencilled in for an appearance on TOTP. It has been a spectacular, if not to be a short-lived exposure in the main spot-light of the UK public interest. Even the video for his song has to be the cheapest and dire produced effort I have seen since the 80's when Frankie said go relax. Well yesterday, this balding hasbeen went straight into the UK charts at No.9, and in doing so has put all of us Madness fans to utter shame! Every single one of us.
