Title:
headphone output garbled for movie players (more...)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Not sure when this started but recently when I plug in my headphones
the sound output becomes garbled but only for movie players (vlc /
dragon). Sound is OK for amarok but switches to mono (pavucontrol
appears to think it is stereo but the sound output is mono (yes the
  headphones are stereo!)).

This definitely worked previously (kubuntu 12.04) and i think, but cannot be
sure, that the problem started after recent updates.
