Title:
Sound level is not editable until AFTER user login

Bug description:
One of my chief complaints if with my current setup (Kubuntu x64) is
that sometimes I have my volume up for watching movies and such before
shutting down at night. then when I go to turn on my PC I just KNOW
that the login sound is going to blare full volume, waking the baby
and knocking me out of my chair...
Once I get fully logged in (after getting back in my chair) I can use
the keyboard volume controls, but by then it's too late... I woke the
baby.
WHY can't the volume controls be active BEFORE the Logon?
