It works for me when sharing a contact from my iPhone.  Shows up in
messaging-app correctly and I can save into my address-book. It requires
MMS to be working so it's possible you are having MMS issues (requires
data connection) ? Can you receive photos? What build are you on?

  I tried to send a vcard via SMS from another phone to the Ubuntu
