If this is still an issue in newer versions of libav, please follow https://libav.org/bugreports.html and report the issue upstream.
** Changed in: libav (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libav in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/964197 Title: audio and video out of sync when extracting a piece of stream with -ss and -t Status in libav package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The following command: ffmpeg -ss 00:02:20 -t 7 -i esqueletos.flv -vcodec mjpeg -s 640x480 -qmin 0.8 -qmax 0.8 -acodec copy esqueletos.mov should transcode a piece of video of a duration of 7 seconds starting from 00:02:20. It actually generates a 7 second video, but the audio does not correspond to the video, as if it was read out of synchro. Reporting libav bugs on ubuntu is very frustrating, because many of them have already been fixed ages ago upstream in ffmpeg (I have no idea whether this is the case of this particular bug). I wonder why ubuntu uses a fork of ffmpeg which is ages behind in development...
