If you're talking about a BIG disk (500gig or larger) and a BIG music
collection, I'd go with NTFS, which uses the hard disk space much more
efficiently than FAT32.  In terms of copying your music files from your
Mac to the usb connected NTFS drive, you can just "drag" the music to
the new drive, but you have to jump through one hoop first.  See:

PS: This is snow-leopard only.  With leopard and older versions of OS
X, you'll need to install mac-fuse and mac-ntfs-3g...both free, but both
a little more bother to set up than the method cited above.
