Redesign is a fact of electronic life due to obsolescence. The fact remains that the replacement of a very expensive component, the VFD with LCD should reduce BOM costs significantly. Circuit redesign is obviously something Logitech are very capable of. The architectural changes, move to LUA nd TinySC etc. seem less successful in terms of cost benefit analysis. Slim devices should be cheaper than medium / fat devices. Exotic? embedded CPUs are a way of life for many domestic products. Embedded controllers are very cost effective. Don't want a full Linux suite in my CD player....
