But if someone already has legacy hardware and needs functions Touch
can't provide (like transcoding of ALAC for non-SqueezeOS players) they
will already have server hardware that can do this. It's new customers
that won't have the hardware this really makes sense for.

It's a GPL OS but a Logitech License for SqueezeOS and SqueezePlay. I
think the basics are that you cannot distribute a compiled binary of
either, so if you came up with compatible hardware you would have to
distribute the source and have your users compile and install the
results themselves.
