Correct. There are two reasons I can think of to connect a drive
directly to the Touch:

- If you don't want to install additional software on your PC
- If you want to listen to your music library even when the PC is off

If neither applies to you, you are probably better off with a drive
connected to your PC.

It depends. My PC is ultra silent (fanless graphics board, regulated
CPU fan, sound insulated case) and compared to that external HDDs are
noisy. :) I would not want one between my stereo equipment. If I were to
connect a drive to the Touch, I would go for a USB flash drive or an
SSD.
