Just after making the last post (and whilst I was outside for 10 minutes), I got the OP problem - "Local music service has been stopped due to a problem" on the Touch with blue connectivity 'lights' on receiver and radio.
I had just selected a new album which was playing (though had stuttered), stepped out and came back to silence.
