I've found a way to connect my Touch to my network in a way that
replaces the functionality of the SB3's wireless bridge (at least how
I've been using it), and I am describing it here in case it is of help
to anyone else.

My goal is to run a wired connection between the Touch and my music
library for reliable streaming, and still have a web interface to the
server. If I connect the Touch directly to a USB drive, I don't have
the web interface. And both the Touch and the Windows 7 computer
running the Squeezebox Server software are located too far from my
router to run Ethernet cables to them from the router (although the
computer and Touch are close together).

My solution is to use both the Ethernet and the wireless connections on
my Windows 7 computer at the same time. The computer connects
wirelessly to my home network router in the normal way, giving it full
internet connectivity. And then the Touch is wired directly into the
computer's Ethernet LAN Adapter with a crossover Ethernet cable, in
effect creating a separate router-less two-device network consisting of
the Touch and the computer. And finally, the computer is set to share
its (wireless) internet connection with the 'other computers on its
network' e.g. the Touch.

To do this, first connect the Windows 7 computer to the wireless home
network in the usual way. The router uses DHCP to assign a LAN address
to the computer's wireless adapter.

Second, share the computer's wireless internet connection: In Windows 7
go to the Network and Sharing Center and in the upper left corner click
on 'change adapter settings'. Then right-click on Wireless Network
Connection, left-click 'Properties', click the 'Sharing' tab, and
select 'Allow other network users to share this computer's internet
connection'. [For safety's sake, I also de-select 'Allow other network
users to control or disable the shared internet connection.'] Click OK.
An informational message appears notifying you that the LAN adapter
will automatically be set to a LAN address of 192.168.137.1. [The
actual value may be dependent on your LAN address range.]

Third, you need to set the Touch to connect via Ethernet to the
computer. This will involve manually assigning an IP address to the
Touch [I reserved one for this purpose on the router so that nothing
else conflicts with it] and then telling the Touch to look for the
computer's ethernet LAN address that was just set:

>From the Touch's main menu select Settings, Advanced, Networking,
Choose Network, Connect to Ethernet network. It will try to connect
and be unable to do so, since there is no DHCP involved in the
connection. On the error screen, instead of selecting Try Again, select
"Enter IP information manually". An information screen comes up -
select Continue.

You can then enter the IP address you have reserved for the Touch.
Then press '>' and the default subnet mask 255.255.255.0 appears -
there is no need to change this. Next it will ask you to set the
Default Gateway address. This may come up initially as your router's
address, but change it to the computer's ethernet LAN address that was
automatically set earlier when the internet connection was shared [i.e.
192.168.137.1]. Then the DNS Server also needs to be set to this same
address. The Touch will then try again to connect via Ethernet to the
computer, and it should be successful this time.

The Touch then returns to the Networking screen where you have to
instruct it to find the library at the Ethernet connection you have
just set up: select Remote Libraries, Add New Library, and then enter
the computer's ethernet LAN address [e.g. 192.168.137.001]. Then select
'Connect to this Library'.

Voila! Everything should work now: The Touch can find the computer's
Squeezebox Server on the ethernet connection and stream the library
over it, and it can find the internet by going through the ethernet
connection to the computer's shared wireless connection so that all the
radio functions can work.

Maybe someone finds this useful...
