It may be possible for the internal server Touch to do the line-in to play on Touch but not for relaying to other players as I think it would be overloaded. Without transcoding Touch would then have to stream WAV to all synced devices which would be (i) use much more memory as each TCP stream needs buffers etc. (ii) use more CPU as more packets need more processings (iii) use much more bandwidth
In my proposed config. TinySBS is not running so there is spare memory and CPU for it to transcode stream into Flac. Flac is sent to other SBS (could be a Sheevaplug or possibly another Touch).
