Hi all, I've just got my Touch, so Ive decided to join this forum. As the title indicates, I am using my Touch with a Cambridge Audio DacMagic. Somewhat rashly, I bought the DAC at the same time as the Touch, assuming it would improve on that built into the Touch. So does it? Well, after a lot of cable swapping and listening, I would say, yes it does, but not by much. As you may know, the DacMagic offers three filters which I find only subtly different. The Touch DAC is essentially a fourth option which is defintly on a par with the other three. Having said that, I would rank the Touch DAC as my least favourite of the four options (but still very good, as I said, the differences are subtle). As an example, I now routinely use the minimum phase filter on the DacMagic, which to me, sounds the most human of the available options. By contrast, the Touch DAC is as detailed as the DacMagic, but a bit more hi-fi sounding. If I play a track like Floyds Great Gig in the Sky the DacMagic (min phase) can send shivers down the spine in a way that the Touch DAC doesnt quite achieve. But I emphasise again, the differences are not great and I could happily live with just the Touch. By the way, I also think the Touch/DacMagic stacks-up well against my (way more costly) CD player (Naim CDX2).
