I have also experienced what you are describing. So I can confirm it. But I'm not sure it is a bug. I would consider it deliberate behaviour. Since you are playing an album, but there are multiple covers to choose from, the device chooses the cover art of the first track and considers this to be the cover belonging to this album. There is a certain logic to it.
