Watch the servers cpu usage during this. How large are this playlist ?
And on random mix how is the setting for how many songs to show ? Try the default 10/10 or similar. Try not to press shuffle with a large playlist. I would recommend to use erlands plugins for playlists if you have a Touch. Then you can random from your previously saved large playlists without problems ( keeping the settings on how many to show at 10-20 something).
