The onscreen "power" button does two things:

Stops anything thats playing.

Engages the "OFF" screensaver.

There a settings page from which you can set the OFF screensaver to be
many things, including completely screen off.

There is a bug that prevents the OFF screensaver from being engaged if
the Touch is not connected to any server. So if you are not connected
to a network and you unplug the drive, the builtin server will shut
down and now the off screensave won't show up. If you have the Touch
connected to a network with an internet connection it will connect to
mysqueezebox.com (an over the internet server) when the drive is
unplugged, thus the power button will work.

The Touch comes with a minimal brightness setting
(settings->brightness->Minimal Brightness) which allows you you to set
how bright the screen is when its dark in the room. You can set this
very low so its just a very dim glow in a dark room. It will still get
bright when you turn the room lights on (or the sun comes up and you
have the curtains open)

BTW TinySC stands for Tiny Squeeze Center, the original name for the
builtin server that runs when you plug a USB drive in. (since then the
server has been renamed Squeezebox Server, so it should probably be
called TinySBS, but the original name has sort of stuck) Its called
Tiny because its stripped down so it will run on the limited resources
of the Touch.

TinySBS starts up when you plug in the drive and quits when you unplug
the drive. You should always use the Eject item from the menu before
physically unplugging a drive. The server keeps the library database on
the drive, if you just unplug it you can corrupt the database stored on
the disk and then all kinds of strange things can happen. (it probably
won't corrupt the songs themselves, just the database)
