There is a bug for this problem:

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16148

Please vote for it. The more votes it gets the more attention it will
get from Logitech.

The issue is that when the power button is pushed the Touch tries to
tell the server this has happened (so if someone tries to play music
through the server it can wake the Touch up). But if the Touch is not
connected to ANY server the call to the server hangs and the
screensaver never gets activated. Its a fairly simple fix to the code
to hack a solution. If I had any time on my hands I'd put together a
patch for this.

The work around is to make sure you have the Touch connected to a
running server. As has been mentioned a connection to mysqueezebox.com
is perfectly sufficient, so even if you are running the internal server
but still have a connection to the internet available it will
automatically switch to mysqueezebox.com IF you have registered it.
