Definitely not true. Many people have been able to see their USB drive
from another computer. 

I just tried Jim's technique with the IP address and it worked
perfectly even though I was on a different workgroup.

First is get the IP address, this is in 
settings->advanced->diagnostics
look for IP Address.

Then bring up windows explorer (not internet explorer) and in the
address bar type
\\<IPAddress>

In my case it was \\192.168.1.102

Make sure they are backslashes, if you use forward slashes it will try
and bring up your internet browser. 

This will then bring up a window asking for user and password. The
default user is Squeezebox and the default password is 1234 .

You should then see the logs and the drive.

The only reason this should not work is if samba has died. Samba is the
program on the Touch that shares devices over the network.

If it has died (which should NOT happen) you can restart it by turning
off sharing and turning it back on.
