A single G device on N network will degrade performance. No, it won't go
to G speed entirely, but it will cause wifi radio to switch to G mode
while talking to G devices. Switching has cost, time to transmit X
bytes in G mode is greater then usual N, and then switching back - it
will severely limit throughput. If you want N to utilize its potential
there should be exactly zero legacy devices.

Just dual band (single radio) won't do, simultaneous dual band (dual
radio) might be better, but in reality N devices such as video
streamers, IP cams, etc just don't support 5GHz, i.e. they're all at
2.4GHz, and thus will be affected by having G device.

The only way to avoid negative impact of having G Squeezebox on N
network is to maintain extra radio (separate wifi on dedicated router
or access point) just for G devices.
