I don't get it: I am browsing folders to get to the music, presumably
it's just reading the directory from the filesystem? At least that's
the case with my home system where I run a full Squeezebox Server: Even
if I haven't done a rescan, newly added music is instantaneously visible
when I browse folders (even though searching for Artist, ... requires a
rescan -- of course, because it has to get into the database first).

So wouldn't that contradict your statement that it always requires the
database?
Curious ...
Thanks!
