I just had a thought, there might actually be a way to make this work
without changing anything:

Disconnect the drive from the Touch and plug it into a nother computer.
On the disk delete the .Squeezebox directory. Create a new directory at
the top level and put ONE song in it.

Back on the Touch edit the server.prefs file and change the music to be
this new directory you created. Plug the drive in. It will go to the new
directory and do a full scan, which should take, oh half a second. (ok I
exaggerate, it will take 1.5 seconds). Then use the music folder
technique to select and play songs. I'm pretty sure you can use "music
folder" to play a song thats not in the official music path.

It may take some time to play start playing a song as it scans the
file, but it probably will work.

So how to change the server prefs? You can SSH into the touch and use
vi to edit the file. If you've never used vi before that may be a bit
of a learning curve. There is another option. Erland has a testing
version of an applet that is supposed to let you modify server prefs
from the Touch's screen. I haven't used it yet so I don't have the
details, but it probably will do this.

I won't have time until tomorrow night to try it out. Anybody else want
to step and try this?
