Using the port 9000 interface will only work if the Touch is connected
to an external server, so it will not work with a USB drive connected
directly to the Touch, which uses the internal server.

There IS a port of squeezeplay to maemo (the OS on the n800-n900 series
devices). This can be used to control the Touch no matter what is is
connected to. I haven't tried it yet, I really should though.

So if you have a maemo device (770, n800, n810, n900) you can probably
use squeezeplay on it.

Squeezeplay is the player software on the Touch itself, so the maemo
port should look and work identically to what you see on the Touch.
