Why the general statements that have no basis in facts? "It seems like
the Touch really dont like usb devices... :(" Are you having an
issue, yes you are. Is it necessarily the Touch, no its not. Could it
be the Touch, maybe, but seems more likely it is the USB Stick, your
files, or something that you might be doing. The two things that stand
out to me so far are it taking 20 hours to transfer less then 100GB of
files and that the Touch seems to see the total number/size of files
but fails to do a full scan and play music. Seems to point to a bad
stick drive or corrupt files which goes along with it taking 20 hours
to load the USB Stick. Sounds more like the Touch can't deal with the
USB Drive or what's on it then an issue with the Touch.

I have been using some large capacity MicroCenter store brand generic
USB Sticks without a single issue.

My smallest Toshiba USB powered USB drive works great with the Touch.
Its 320GB which sounds like its plenty big enough for your needs. Once
the drive is done scanning the first time, I really don't notice any
drive noise. I have to be thinking about it and actually listening for
it to notice it after the first scan.

Have you considered the 250 or 320GB Toshiba USB powered USB drive as
the drive for your Touch? Another route would be to try to answer as
many of John's questions as possible so he and others might be able to
pin it down to something.

One more thing, why don't we eliminate the Touch as part of the problem
or issue. Use another USB stick (small one, 2 to 8GB) and see what the
Touch does. Remember not to completely fill the stick as the Touch
needs some working space on the drive. If that works fine, it most
likely isn't the Touch and you can concentrate on the Stick or Files.
Speaking of files, what format are they? Are they a format that the
Touch will play when using TinySC? Remember TinySC doesn't play all the
file types the Touch with SBS will play.
