The semi-graphical method of finding music on the Touch works great if
one has the Touch located so that the screen is within easy reach. I'm
able to find most items in my library fairly quickly by using a
combination of the remote and the touch screen. Now if the Touch's
screen is not with easy and one has a large music library I would think
that Lazy Search would be faster.

I would rank the speed and convenience of the various search methods
available as follows:

1 - Lazy Search
2 - Web interface (but one needs a computer in the listening area)
3 - Touch remote/screen combination
4 - Controller
5 - Squeezebox/Transporter remote without Lazy Search

The USB/SD slot only show up as a source on the Touch. Here's a copy of
the relevant section from the Touch Features guide:
