Some DAC's do not display the correct frequency under certain
circumstances. NAD and Cambridge Audio are two I know of that can have
this problem.
It depends on how the DAC decides to display what the frequency is;
some DAC's read the status flags in the s/pdif stream, others lock to
the actual stream.

There is also the bug that MNYB mentions - which REALLY needs fixing by
the way - that causes the frequency sent by SBS to revert to 44.1 when
stopped or skipping between tracks. That can confuse some DAC's.

The thing is, if the music plays OK then the DAC must be handling the
data correctly, no matter what is displayed on the DAC. DAC's
geenerally (apart from some highly specialised ones like TACT) do not
downsample from 96 to 44.1

What DAC do you have?
