You need to log into the Squeezebox. You open a session with PUTTY by selecting entering the IP @ of the squeezebox, and let the port on the predefined value of 22. The protocol should be "SSH". Then you click on "Open" button at the bottom of the window. Afterwards, a text window should open. You use "root" as login and "1234" as password. Then you should get a prompt. You enter "mount" and press Enter. You should then see a list of mounted disk drives including your USB drive. If the entry of the USB drive says "ro" then it is read only. I solved the "read only mount" problem of my Verbatim USB drive by reformatting the USB drive with the ext2 filesystem. To do so I booted a LiveCD Linux (Knoppix) on my PC, connected the USB drive, and then used "mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda1" (in my system sda1 is the USB drive). Afterwards I copied again all mp3 files on the disk - nice side effect is that the scanner seems to work MUCH faster now than before.
