I'm having the same problem (and I asked about it here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81065 before finding this thread). I don't see how this can be a `read only' problem since my touch is certainly writing the database file (in the .Squeezebox/cache directory) to my (NTFS) USB harddrive. [It seems like a bug to me.]
